Our at home measurements and weighing show Morgan at 21 1/5 inches and 9 pounds. We’™ll confirm these measurements at the Dr’s on the 29th. He’™ll see the Dr for his second round of immunizations.

Morgan’s welcome home party was lots of fun! Wow, what a challenge to get your house in order, set up for a party and have food cooked all with a little baby who wants to be fed and held every 2 ‘“ 3 hours! For the first time ever I was not ready when my first guests arrived.
Thank goodness the backyard grass was installed and looked good…

Despite all that, we had fun, the house was full of kids watching cartoons on the giant screen and swimming in the pool. Morgan got some really great football clothes from the Murdocks and the Ottaways. Lifeguard duties were left to Suzi-Q:

Morgan is doing really well with his head control, I think his Dr will be pleased. He’s eating pretty regularly, every 3 hours. He was grazing during the day and eating every hour or so until I was told that wasn’t good for his acid reflux. The hospital has a caseworker who will follow his progress for the next 3 years, she called on Monday and in talking about his eating habits, I learned that it is better for him to eat every 3 hours, a substantial meal, instead of an ounce every hour or so. So, I have been trying other things to soothe him when he gets fussy, and I don’t feed him until it’s close to the 3 hour mark. It seems to making a difference. And overall he is eating more throughout the day.

We had a string of about 4 nights where he skipped his 3 am feeding (he ate at 1 am and then slept until 6 or 7 am) and Don and I we starting to get used to the luxury of 5 uninterrupted hours of sleep, and then just as quickly he reverted to his very punctual every 3 hour schedule. He wakes up like clockwork at 12 am, 3 am and 6 am. Don has been really great about helping with the middle of the night feedings, as the week wears on and I am too exhausted to wake up right away, Don will get up if I don’t, and take care of Morgan, thank goodness or I don’t know how I’™d make it through the week. Trying to work during the day and take care of him and then the late night feedings, too, really takes it’s toll by Thursday or Friday night!

Last Monday Morgan woke up with a goopy eye. I thought an infection was coming on for a few days because I noticed that his eye was more teary than usual, and sure enough on Monday he had green goop all across his eye. So I called the Dr and they phoned in a prescription and he is getting drops 4 times a day. His eye looks much better, almost no goop and barely any extra tears. He handles the drops ok most of the time, unless he’s really got his eyes shut tight and I have to force them open, then he’s not to happy with me.

So overall Morgan is doing well, he’s growing, gaining weight, and maturing. He’s almost 4 months old (1 month old ‘“ adjusted age).

Until Morgan is 2, in terms of his development and growth we will talk in adjusted age. So since he was born 3 months early, his adjusted age starts from his due date. The reason they do this is because Morgan won’t hit developmental milestones such as head control, sitting on his own, walking, etc until his adjusted age. They adjust until 2 years old because so much development happens during these 2 years that the difference between and 12 month old and a 15 month old are still vast. But at 2 the difference of 1 ‘“ 3 months is not as significant.

He should have his sleep study in a couple of weeks, this will help determine how much longer he will be on the apnea monitor. He is still having episodes, every 1 ‘“ 2 days. Usually when he is very relaxed, he just gets so comfortable that he forgets to remember to breathe. We can’t wait for him to outgrow this!
