Avengers: Infinity War

Sort of the Empire Strikes Back of the Marvel Phase 3. No fat, all fun…until of course it takes its 3rd act turn. The Russo brothers do their best to close any holes and give everyone something to do. Captain America reveal makes me smile every time (watched about 8 times so far)

Deadpool 2

Tall Order to top the First one…and a valiant effort in every way. Saw both Theatrical and Super Duper cut. Super Cut has more suicide attempts and Matt Damon/Alan Tudyk…but the running scene music (Welcome to the party) is better in the theatrical. Timeline cleanup is brilliant.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout

A great wrap up story…they can do more…but no need. They left it all on the table. Call backs to 2,3,4,5 including his wife. 4 amazing set pieces (Bathroom fight and helicopter chase are real stand –outs) Bravo Ethan…now get some rest.

Upgraded

This one snuck in…a B movie premise with an A level effort. Those rare indies that are not too deep but a fun unexpected ride. Think ‘The Hidden’ (87) or ‘Terminator’ (84)

A Quiet Place

A great first film from Krasinski. Starts with a Walking Dead feel but is much better. Hardly any talking but the tension and emotion drip from the film.

Ready Player One

A gutsy attempt at good Pop Culture VR based book. The human scenes are Spielberg’d to the max. Most of the CGI is very good but the action is a bit scattershot (like being in a pinball machine) Music and references are all in my wheelhouse.

Aquaman

Sits in snugly behind The Dark Knight as the best DC has to offer. A visual feast to the level of Avatar with a likable characters (although Amber Heard doesn’t do it for me) I can think of 10 other actresses that would have moved this up the list. Great Music, Great Story, Great Visuals….and Julie Andrews (No Shit)

Black Panther

Marvel’s black centric film about the rise of the king in the hidden country Wakanda. Boseman owns the part but a few LOTR alums almost steal the show. The downfall comes from the emotionless delivery of every line and multiple set pieces taking place at night.

Incredibles 2

I have demanded this since the first one….and Disney family movie…. with a complete family…no orphans or single parents…with real family problems. Falls short of the first in style and substance…with a chuckle here and there. Just a little too WOKE for its own good (too female centric).

Ant-Man and the Wasp

It doesn’t break the top 10 of all Marvel movies…but I smiled all the way through. This one is more the Wasp’s movie…but Pena steals it again.
