No… not the wonderful Crystal/Hines (RIP) comedy auctioneer. This is a Paul Walker Film, that alone should send some kind of chill down your spine. The movie has about six different plot styles’¦none of them original. Paul walker is a mob dude that disposes of hitman guns. His wife knows but believes he is good at heart, his son doesn’t know. One day a neighbor boy steals one of the stash (the Italian mob bosses son’s pistol) to kill his father …then runs away. The cops know the gun is out in the open ‘¦the mob knows it’s out in the open’¦so the race is on. Walker is trying to get back the gun…the cops want it cause it killed two of their own’¦the mob wants it cause it implements them’¦whew. In true Indie style: way to much going on…and always just a little too noir and quirky to enjoy. One of the positives to the film was the transitions from scene to scene’¦sort of a poor mans David Fincher (Fight Club, Panic Room) and the layers that each character possesses, very rare to have so many’¦Paul not only is on a One hour search for the missing gun…he is dealing with near death beating he did to his drunk father 10 years before’¦fighting a secret that isn’t revealed till the end’¦running into every lowlife in the state’¦and struggling to keep his family together. Another storyline is the neighbor who took the gun’¦this one is like an X-Rated version of Lemony Snickets’¦really it is. He gets the single creepiest scenes with two of the most evil people you will ever see on film’¦and strangely enough it had nothing to do with the story. Yet another plot is a dirty NY detective trying to blackmail everybody involved’¦on both sides. As I told Deb while watching the movie’¦the signs say New York’¦but this is Hell’¦all that was missing was fire. If you saw ‘˜Narc’™ by Joe Carnahan you saw a gritty, close up…in you face style’¦that’s what this film is’¦a few cool slow mo moments and a unique torture using hockey players (although James bond handled it better in ‘˜For Your Eyes Only’™) So why only a ‘˜2’™’¦well…it was way to busy’¦bordered on confusion…and was too grainy most of the time. The Mafia boses were caricatures and the twisting plot lines were from 5 other movies. Oh and did I mention it was film entirely in the Czech Republic?
