Best Picture:
Brokeback Mountain
Capote
Crash
Good Night and Good Luck
Munich.

For the first time in 20 years I have not seen even one of the nominated pictures. While Munich and Brokeback is on my list to see (something about Anne Hathaway breasts) most of the back stories of the films disturb me. Brokeback’s gay love story, Capotes Gay life, Crash’s darker copy of Kasdan’s ‘˜Grand Canyon’™, Good Nights revisionist history and Munich’s personal story of a bigger event’¦.when everybody wanted to see the bigger event too (you can thank James Cameron for fucking that up for everybody). So my choice is Munich’¦cause if there is one thing that Steven is’¦he is flawless’¦and this should be a award for greatness’¦.not political or character or an ensemble or scenery’¦.it should everything.

Actor:
Philip Seymour Hoffman – Capote
Terrence Howard – Hustle & Flow
Heath Ledger – Brokeback Mountain
Joaquin Phoenix – Walk the Line
David Strathairn – Good Night and Good Luck.

Once again did not see any of them’¦..D&D die says Joaquin. Although buzz follows Hoffman.

Actress:
Judi Dench – Mrs. Henderson Presents
Felicity Huffman – Transamerica
Keira Knightley – Pride & Prejudice
Charlize Theron – North Country
Reese Witherspoon – Walk the Line.

Judi is the best actress of them all’¦but Charlize has picked the roles that get her to this list each year (an a pothead’¦cool). This category is always a tough one’¦but Felicity gets it for playing a man so well. Cause for the past 10 years’¦.showing pubic hair gets the award.

Supporting Actor:
George Clooney Syriana
Matt Dillon Crash
Paul Giamatti Cinderella Man
Jake Gyllenhaal Brokeback Mountain
William Hurt A History of Violence.

Ooooohhh’¦I saw two of these’¦and while Paul should get it for his body of work. George’s CIA man on the outs was a better character. I don’t think it’s possible for Matt Dillion to be on this list.

Supporting Actress:
Amy Adams – Junebug
Catherine Keener – Capote
Frances McDormand – North Country
Rachel Weisz – The Constant Gardener
Michelle Williams – Brokeback Mountain

Hmmmm – Didn’t see any of them’¦hmmmm’¦If I rate on pure hotness, then Rachel takes home the prize. I can still feel the sizzle from the ‘˜Mummy’™ movies.

Director:
Ang Lee – Brokeback Mountain
Bennett Miller – Capote
Paul Haggis – Crash
George Clooney – Good Night and Good Luck.
Steven Spielberg ‘“ Munich

DGA picked Ang’¦so Ang it is.

Foreign Film:
Don’t Tell – Italy
Joyeux Noel – France
Paradise Now – Palestine
Sophie Scholl – The Final Days Germany
Tsotsi – South Africa

Politically I see the academy picking Palestine (even though there is no such country) But from what I have heard ‘˜Tsotsi’™ is good enough to release in the states’¦and that means so much more.

Adapted Screenplay:
Larry McMurtry & Diana Ossana – Brokeback Mountain
Dan Futterman – Capote
Jeffrey Caine – The Constant Gardener
Josh Olson – A History of Violence
Tony Kushner and Eric Roth – Munich.

I think this one goes down to Munich or Gardner. I pick Gardner due to the scale they maintained.

Original Screenplay:
Paul Haggis & Bobby Moresco – Crash
George Clooney & Grant Heslov – Good Night and Good Luck.
Woody Allen – Match Point
Noah Baumbach – The Squid and the Whale
Stephen Gaghan – Syriana.

Hey ‘¦did I tell you I saw Syriana?…..ok Stephen you can have this one.

Animated Feature Film:
Howl’s Moving Castle
Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride
Wallace & Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Didn’t’™ see them’¦DAMMIT!!!…Corpse takes clay animation into the digital age. Wallace and Grommet was a movie everyone was waiting to see. But since Corpse was made in America’¦.I will pick that.

Art Direction:
Good Night and Good Luck
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
King Kong
Memoirs of a Geisha
Pride & Prejudice.

Four powerhouse of Art Direction (didn’t see any of them’¦.But the ‘˜Gay’™est always wins)’¦. Geisha wins the prize.

Cinematography:
Batman Begins
Brokeback Mountain
Good Night and Good Luck
Memoirs of a Geisha
The New World

Since all Terrance Malick films should not exist and Black and White doesn’t count and Batman’s one achilles heel was its fight cinematography’¦.Brokeback and Geisha have to duke it out’¦hmmm Gay directed or Gay movie’¦dammit’¦this is too hard’¦.Ok’¦.I will go by past works: Rodrigo has nothing of note to me’¦but Dion shot Equilibrium’¦whoo hoo’¦Memoirs of Geisha wins!!!

Sound Mixing:
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
King Kong
Memoirs of a Geisha
Walk the Line
War of the Worlds.

Rule of thumb (I know ‘¦its about beating wives’¦I get it) is music’¦so I will go with Walk the Line.

Sound Editing:
King Kong
Memoirs of a Geisha
War of the Worlds

This is really ‘˜Effects Editing’™’¦..and Kong wins’¦more elements and more time.

Original Score:
Brokeback Mountain – Gustavo Santaolalla
The Constant Gardener – Alberto Iglesias
Memoirs of a Geisha – John Williams
Munich – John Williams
Pride & Prejudice – Dario Marianelli

Missed them all’¦..and have not heard anything about the music’¦..so the D&D die say: Pride & Prejudice – Dario Marianelli

Original Song:
In the Deep – Crash – Kathleen Bird York and Michael Becker
It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp – Hustle & Flow – Jordan Houston Cedric Coleman and Paul Beauregard
Travelin’ Thru – Transamerica – Dolly Parton

Dolly and a tranny movie’¦.I don’t think so, Crash loses due to one writer having three names, So that leaves :’™ It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp’™ – how can you pass up a movie about writing the song itself’¦.you can’t.

Costume:
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Memoirs of a Geisha
Mrs. Henderson Presents
Pride & Prejudice
Walk the Line

Hmmmmmmm’¦Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (major underdog)

Documentary Feature:
Darwin’s Nightmare
Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room
March of the Penguins
Murderball
Street Fight

Two of the movies made it to the mainstream Penguins and Murderball. Of those Penguin was the best received’¦.tough to fault that’¦.and I would of though a movie about cripples fighting would be box-office gold!

Documentary (short subject) :
The Death of Kevin Carter: Casualty of the Bang Bang Club
God Sleeps in Rwanda
The Mushroom Club
A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin.

No Idea’¦..D&D Die says : God Sleeps in Rwanda

Film Editing:
Cinderella Man
The Constant Gardener
Crash
Munich
Walk the Line

Only Saw Cinderella Man in this group and the editing was standard fare. Spielberg isn’t known for editing and ‘˜Walk’™ already getting sound’¦.so I say Constant Gardner’¦.but don’t ask me why.

Makeup:
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
Cinderella Man
Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith

Hey ‘¦I saw the majority of these’¦yea!!!…Anywho’¦I’™m gonna go with the one I didn’t see’¦.Narnia (just to mix it up a bit)

Animated Short Film:
Badgered
The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation
The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello
9
One Man Band

Missed them all but if badgered is anything like : http://www.badgerbadgerbadger.com then it is a sure winner!

Live Action Short Film:
Ausreisser (The Runaway)
Cashback
The Last Farm
Our Time Is Up
Six Shooter.

Six Shooter’¦.nuff said.

Visual Effects:
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
King Kong
War of the Worlds

Putting Weta head to head is never a good thing’¦but the motion capture movements of Andy Serkis puts King Kong over the top!! ..Hey academy did the 2 gazillion effects shots in Star Wars III get overlooked?

If I see any of the films before the Show’¦I may change some info.
